When you go shopping, you are probably looking to make a trade of sorts. You give money and you receive a product or even a service. If inventory is plentiful, you are sure to find something to buy. You venture forth confidently with a wallet of resources, ready to acquire something needed or desired.
Sometimes you go shopping to browse rather than buy. This is a technique for assessing the products available, and perhaps too, the quality of such products. It is also a method for practicing the exquisite craft of making a good selection. You’ve got to know your options!
What if you are going shopping just to see what’s out there but you don’t have your tools with you? You are simply assessing. WHERE, WHEN, and HOW will you hunt? These elements depend on WHY you are hunting and WHAT you are hunting for.
Before you begin, answer the WHY and the WHAT.
Why am I job hunting? What am I hunting to find?
Next consider your action plan.
WHERE:
If you were hunting out in the world for food to nourish yourself and your loved ones, you would surely survey the land. It would be in your best interest to know whether strawberries grew in a particular forest, or whether deer were plentiful in a specific meadow. Would you really want to spend a whole day hunting when there were zero of what you were looking for in the region?
Hunting for a job requires direction as well. Are you conducting your searches in digital or physical spaces that contain the kind of jobs you are looking for? Do you plan ahead before going in search, or are you aimlessly lunging toward whatever happens to appear in your vision?
WHEN:
If you were to set out on a mission to hunt for a plant or animal that only came out at night, you would need to dress accordingly. Layers would be a must. You might need a flashlight or night-vision goggles. You might need to take a nap during the day to store up extra energy for the unusual night-time wakefulness. You would need to be in satisfactory physical condition and available for prolonged chunks of time.
One of the most unnerving things about job hunting is that the length of time it will take is unpredictable. You really don’t know when you will get your big break. This open-endedness can be overwhelming, to say the least. It’s important to hunt at a time of day and a time of life in which you can dedicate yourself. If you have other commitments besides the hunt, or a family crisis ensuing, you should experiment with balancing your energies so that you can attend to the various facets of your life while being kind to yourself.
HOW:
Hunting outdoors would take the right amount of skill and knowledge. It would require particular types of tools to do the trick, along with an intense amount of patience. If you were planning to come home with some tasty nutrition, you would need a basket or satchel in which to transport your dinner. You would need tools for preparing your meal and different tools for consuming it.
Likewise, you need ideal tools for job hunting. Do yourself a favor and obtain the apps that facilitate ease. Take AI’s hand and plunge forth. Ensure you have fast WiFi, a comfortable chair, and a suitable desk. Whether you score a role sooner or later, you will hone precious experience and sharpen your hunting skills.
Job hunting requires heaps of patience, but for a well-rounded search, you will be rewarded with the success of employment.
