I wear so many hats, and I bet you do too! I’m proud of my multi-tasking skills, yet sometimes I feel overwhelmed by reminders. They seem to be flying at me from all directions. Every morning and every night, I check my hourly, daily, and weekly agenda. My digital calendar sends me banners ahead of an event. I literally receive 200 emails a day. How many of them are actually valuable? What is the point of it all?
In this fast-paced world, communications keep arriving, like offerings at a 24-hour buffet. The everyday has its patterns (like laundry and dishes), yet it’s spattered with surprises. Sometimes my brain is jam-packed to the extent that I can’t remember what I was thinking about when I got up from my computer. I wonder why I walked with such determination to the kitchen, only to forget what my aim was. Can you relate?
If reminders are the juice, then diligence is the hearty breakfast. A small glass of orange will do. Basically, reminders are only good if they preface a full meal of actions carried to fruition.
Reminders are Fluid
Can reminders stack up to a point of overwhelm, like there are so many they just cancel each other out? I admit that I spend too much energy sifting through my endless inbox contents. They drown my very thoughts. I laugh, though it’s really not funny.
I often debate with myself. How in-depth should I go? If I decide to read each and every email as it arrives, won’t my focus be shot before lunchtime? I could easily spend my time on random consumption, rather than taking action on all the applications, cover letters, and networking communications that await my attention.
In preparation for the turning of a new year, I am pouring out a good portion of the subscriptions I’ve signed up for. From advertisements to literary magazine newsletters, I realize that the proportion of non-job hunt related emails compared to the job hunt related emails, is totally lop-sided. I actually want to reverse this lopsidedness. My cup should be full of job hunt, with the extra-curriculars presenting as the sparkle of carbonation, adding celebratory zest.
Reminders are Fortifying
I’m signing up for the reminders that fortify my peaceful mindset so I can pursue professional success with utmost clarity. Being super intentional about how I spend my reading time this coming year will have a formative impact on my professional future. I realize this after coming to the end of a long year—a year in which I focused on so many things all at once that I lost my direction. I fell into the unfortunate habit of studying the emails that came my way rather than pausing to assess them for their value.
While letting many mailings fall to the wayside, I gratefully acknowledge that Callings.ai email reminders are well worth my while. Our consistently occasional messages bring a lift to my day with job matches that have high-percentage alignment to my goals. I love that I can open an email, click, and instantly save matches to my profile dashboard on our platform. Our reminders do the trick, sending a bit of encouragement. They motivate me because they are short and sweet. I feel supplemented rather than saturated.
My hope for you, dear job hunter, is that you limit your job hunt life to the reminders you can really make use of. Start your new year with a hungry inbox and empty walls, waiting to be graced with only the most precious things. Do it for yourself and do it for your dream job.
Cheers!
