Last week, I wrote about warming up your cold calls. I focused on the notion of prepping yourself for initiating outreach, along with how to conduct yourself in a warm and friendly way. This week I am advancing with the same topic, to feature resources within our Callings product.
First, I will start with a wee bit of storytelling…
My dad says he hated making cold calls for the men’s suit section of a department store, back in the day. It was a short stint and one of his first jobs out of college before he launched his career. His boss expected him to pull from a list of previous customers, pick up the phone, and call to inquire if anyone was interested in buying a suit. More often than not, people on the other end of the line were unreceptive and sometimes even mad. Golly gee whiz, it was dinner time, and for goodness sakes, how often did a person need a suit? My dad dreaded reaching out with the intent of influencing someone to purchase an item they might not need—nor want—to make.
As you know, cold calls for job seekers are a totally different kind of call. They are not the act of selling something, but more an expression of curiosity—a way to become familiar with the kind of person who has already been hired at the type of company you are aiming for. Perhaps along the way, this person might be so kind as to refer you, but that would be an extra. These days we tend to send out emails and direct digital messages for making initial contact, so we generally have more time to sort through our thoughts and questions before the actual conversation.
Our Callings.ai product offers a wonderful feature to warm up you and your cold calls. This might be my favorite feature of our services. Let me tell you all about it. In fact, I’ll show you!
Let’s start with looking at the job tracker, which is a dashboard for organizing your job hunt.
As you can see above, there is so much more to your job tracker than just a job description. Tasks include researching the company, analyzing your job fit, and creating your resume and cover letter. We help you through the entire process, from discovering a role to interviewing.
The “Networking Targets” tool is what has me thrilled beyond belief. Here you will find a list of potential connections, and they are numbered according to priority. Note that I added robot faces to the head shots and scratched out the names and position titles for discretion.
If you click on a contact, you are taken directly to their LinkedIn profile, but you don’t have to go there in order to research them. You can wade through their information right here in the networking section in your Callings job tracker. You can add and organize your suggested contacts, get acquainted with who they are before reaching out, and receive support on what to say when you do reach out.
What I find especially convenient, is the clear and thorough assessment of a contact’s communication style, which can even include their typical availability and response rate.
Below the sections I have shown, the contact information continues forth to include their Interests, Work History, and Education. I am really quite astounded how easy it is to peruse ahead of time before reaching out to someone. I have found as many as eight contact recommendations for suggested outreach, related to one particular target role. It’s most reassuring to read and learn, not only about their professional backgrounds, but their potential compatibility for having a conversation with me. The experience is far more relaxing than attending an in-person networking event, where everyone is wearing a sticky-tag on their lapel that merely features their name and organization. Our enriching resource allows you to learn before even taking the time to talk.
If you haven’t already, do give our platform a try, and especially immerse yourself in the splendour of the “Networking Targets” section. Bask in the people-knowledge! It’s quite a step up from using a landline at the department store to cold call a long list of former customers. We offer you a multi-dimensional reincarnation of cold calls—the power of persuasion at your fingertips.
Let’s help you land your dream job and discover your true calling!
